Author Guidelines

Rules for providing materials for publication in the journal "Post-Soviet Continent"

Authors wishing to publish in the journal, the editorial board strongly recommends that they adhere to the following rules.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. The article (no more than 14 standard pages in the Word text editor, i.e. about 1,700 characters per page, a maximum of 25,500 characters in total, the 14th font size, at 1.5 intervals) should be written on topics relevant to the journal.
  2. The article should contain the following materials:

information about the author: academic degree, place of work, position, e-mail (in Russian and English);

keywords (in Russian and English);

abstract (volume 0.2 pages, 1-2 sentences) (in Russian and English);

list of references with transliteration of sources.

All this data will be freely available on the Internet.

HEADER REQUIREMENTS

The text can be divided into parts that have independent headings. These headings are highlighted in bold, aligned in the middle. There is no dot at the end.

REQUIREMENTS FOR FIGURES AND TABLES

If necessary, the text of the article can be illustrated with drawings (black and white), tables and contain formulas. The numbering of figures, tables and formulas is continuous and is indicated by Arabic numerals. All tables, figures and formulas in the text must have links.

Drawings (diagrams, maps, snapshots, photographs) should be clear, contrasting. Drawings are inserted into the text using the Word program in the place required by the meaning with captions (number and title of the figure) aligned in the center.

When making tables, the headings and subheadings of the graph are indicated in the singular, they are placed, as a rule, parallel to the rows of the table. If necessary, the perpendicular arrangement of the graph headers is allowed. The table, depending on its size, is placed under the text in which the link to it is given for the first time, or on the next page, and if necessary in the appendix to the text.

 

NUMBERS and abbreviations with numbers

  1. Centuries are written only in Roman numerals.
  2. When specifying the date, the words "year" ("years"), "century" ("centuries") are abbreviated: year – g.; years – g.; century – v.; centuries – centuries. The exception is quotations or titles of printed works, in the author's text of which these words are written in full.
  3. Abbreviations "thousand", "people" with dots, "million", "billion", "kg", "h" (hours) – without dots.
  4. The numbers in the names of the rulers are written in Roman numerals: Nicholas II.
  5. In large numbers, spaces are placed between the digits. For example: 6,783,456. However, one digit of thousands is not separated by a space (6783).
  6. It is possible: the 1950s; in the 1950s and 1960s; by the 50s (but it is impossible: in the 1950s and 60s). A dash is placed between the numbers, not a hyphen: 1970-1980, three to five.
  7. The number sign is separated from the digit by a space: No. 4. The percentage is separated from the digit by a space: 18%.

 

Other ABBREVIATIONS

  1. Words are not abbreviated: so-called, for example, about.
  2. Abbreviations are allowed: etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., see, cf., St., etc.
  3. When names are mentioned in the texts, initials are placed in front of the surname, the following surname is separated by a space from the initials, but no space is placed between the initials. For example: A.S. Pushkin, N. Novikov. It is desirable that all authors have two initials in the article.
  4. If abbreviations are used in the main text or footnotes, the full name is initially given. For example: the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter – RK).

 

Different SIGNS AND HIGHLIGHTS

  1. The dash (–) is separated from the adjacent words by a space on both sides. A short dash is used, not a long (—) dash. Inside words, a hyphen (-) is used, inseparable from parts of words by a space.
  2. Quotes are executed only in the form of double brackets-corners: "......". Quotes inside quotes: "......"....."".
  3. The dot is not placed at the end of the headers and cells of the table. A dot is placed after the author's last name before the title of the book. For example: S.P. Mikhailov. Favourites.
  4. Underscores are not allowed in the text. The selections are indicated in italics.
  5. Bulleted list:

REQUIREMENTS FOR LINKS.

The article may contain subscript bibliographic references. Author's notes and comments, as well as links to archival sources, materials of collections and private collections can act as subscript bibliographic references. Unlike in-text bibliographic references given in square brackets, subscript references are made in computer mode: Insert-Link-Footnote.

  1. The footnotes are numbered in Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3 ... etc. until the end of the article – continuous numbering). The footnote number is placed before the dot at the end of the sentence or the comma "...the rise of agriculture"11.
  2. Links to the archive are made as follows:

THE ORDER OF PUBLICATION

After the editorial board of the journal makes a decision to publish the article, the editor informs the author about it and agrees on the publication dates.  Then the material is sent for editorial editing. At the end of the editorial editing, the article is assigned to a specific issue of the journal, and the material is transferred to the layout.

After receiving the circulation of the journal, the editorial board sends each author a free copy of the author, or the author personally takes it to the editorial office.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The manuscripts are accepted if has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.

  2. The materials should be prepared in a format OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or World Perfect.

  3. Internet links are provided as a complete URL. 

  4. Text should be typed with an interval of one and a half line spacing, font Times New Roman, 14 pt; to highlight the accents it is recommended to use italics rather than underlining (except Internet links). All images, graphics and tables are placed within the text according to the meaning of the particular part of text  (and not at the end of the document).

  5. Text should follow the stylistic and bibliography requirements as stated in  Regulations  located in the Part "About Us." 

  6. Please, remove the authors' names from the title of the article and other parts of the document to ensure the  anonymity of reviewing.

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:
