Journal History

On March 1, 2000, the Institute of CIS Countries published the first information and analytical bulletin "CIS Countries. Russians and Russian-speakers in the new abroad". The publication was registered with the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Press, Broadcasting and Mass Media. Certificate of registration of PI No. 77-7987 dated May 14, 2001.

One of the primary tasks of the publication was to inform the general public about the processes taking place in the post-Soviet space after the collapse of the USSR, to explain complex changes and phenomena. The bulletin contained the most significant research of the Institute's staff and exclusive materials on the problems of the development of new independent states and interstate relations in the Commonwealth, monitoring of processes in the post-Soviet space, forecast of the development of politics and economy of the former Soviet republics. A separate topic of the collection was the situation of Russian compatriots, the Russian language and culture in the near abroad.

The bulletin was published until 2008, 191 issues were issued.

 

In 2014, the traditions of the bulletin continued in the magazine "Post-Soviet Continent" - a pilot issue was published in January. The journal is registered by the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Communications (Roskomnadzor). Certificate of registration of the mass media PI No. FS77-55141 dated August 26, 2013.

In 2021, the journal "Post-Soviet Continent" was recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC) in the List of leading peer-reviewed scientific journals in which the main scientific results of dissertations for candidate and Doctor of Science degrees should be published, in the specialties: 5.2.5 - World Economy and 5.5.2 - Political institutions, processes, technologies.

Over time, the Post-Soviet Continent has become one of the leading scientific publications devoted to the analysis of the post-Soviet space. The journal remains committed to its original goals, however, taking into account the changing challenges of time and opportunities, it strives to expand the range of published materials and deepen research in various fields.
